Introduction to the Workshop

The mobility of relief forces and the supply of personnel and goods are of outstanding importance during and after a crisis. However, the transportation system often collapses first in crisis situation leading to massive impairments for the affected population and the work of professional responders: Nearly all of their actions depend on functioning and reliable transport and logistics infrastructures in order to e.g. reach corresponding action places, to ensure evacuation or to provide the affected population with relief goods and services.

Since its establishment in 2004, the ISCRAM association has aimed to bring together people from various culture, knowledge and background to design and develop information systems that improve our capacity to avoid, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises, disasters and catastrophes. The ISCRAM world conference is one of the main events for ISCRAMers to exchange and share to try to reach this goal. Organized every year since 2004 (alternating between America and Europe), this conference series provide several original points:

NITIM is proud to announce its 2016 Winter School (September 20th - 22nd, 2016) in The Hague, Netherlands. With this call, we invite Ph.D. candidates to submit proposals for evaluation and an opportunity to participate in the Winter School. For those who have just started their PhD program, we look forward to receiving a research proposal. For those in their late stage of their PhD, you are encouraged to submit a relevant piece for your dissertation (a paper, an overview, or a chapter of your PhD thesis).
